Educational Technology...hehe
Hey y'all! its ya gurl J'kaelyn back again with another blog!
Now that we've got the introduction out of the way lets start talking about technology and all the many ways it is used in the classroom! First off, I believe that most educators use technology in the classroom not only to teach but to engage with students in various ways (as if that isn't obvious 👀). I feel that students are influenced to use technology in the classroom by teachers for assignments and activities in class. I also feel that technology in the classroom can be influenced by the school itself, for example how we discussed in class that Leon High School requires teachers to have their own websites.
I feel like the ISTE was a very good and well thought out plan or guideline for teachers to follow! I like that it is way for teachers and students to practice, collaborate together, and challenge each other. I think that the most meaningful standard to me is number 6 the Facilitator. I really like the facilitator standard because it focuses on encouragement, helping students achieve their goals, and overall student learning, and this is something that I really want to focus on as a future educator . The standard that seems outside my skill set is number 5 the designer. (my reaction when I see the word "create")
In all honestly, I feel like I would really struggle with finding different ways to be creative or innovative. I honestly don't think there is one creative bone in my body and I really need to work on that 😩.
Sooo when it comes to the term "'digital native" I low key feel like I'm one 😳. I also feel that it is definitely a term fit for todays youth. To be a "digital native" is essentially to have been born and raised during a time of technology.
I don't often find myself seeing major differences between digital natives and digital immigrants. I think 8/10 of my teachers were able to use technology efficient and effectively. Sometimes there was just differences in knowledge of social media but I honestly can barely use Twitter so I don't really think that counts 🙈. I also feel that they would try to integrate more technology into the classroom as much as they were able to. When it comes to my future students I don't imagine there to be a huge difference in our knowledge on technology and I plan to be as tech savy as I can. However, if there ever comes a day where I feel like a grandma in computer skills compared to my students my reaction will be:
First, and a little off topic, the memes and gifs are amazing! :)
ReplyDeletePlease don't let the "designer" standard intimidate you! It is something that comes with time and practice.
