My First Time Acknowledging the Florida Standards
Me @ Common Core
When it comes to the Common Core standards I can't say I'm a huge fan, or even understand the approach to learning it takes. However, if I had to choose a ELA standard that I am most equipped to teach I would say it would be standard LAFS.1112.W.3.8. This standard focuses on gathering information from digital sources, using advance search programs, providing flowing ideas, and avoiding plagiarism. I feel most equipped with this standard because I am familiar with a lot of the suggested websites and programs. As for a standard that I do not feel secure teaching that would have to be standard LAFS.1112.RST.3.7. This standard puts an emphasis on information presented in (e.g., quantitative data, video, multimedia) in order to address a question or solve a problem. I feel like I don't know enough about how to create charts and graphs to analyze data, and I certainly do not know how to use Excel or Photoshop.
In terms of the CPALM's Educator tool kit, I would definitely use some of the lesson plans in my classroom. I looked for a lesson plan that focused on social sciences and found one for Franklin Roosevelts New Deal. I really enjoyed the lesson plan because it was very detailed and interactive. I especially liked the little quiz like questions after major points or ideas in the slides.
Newsletter
On the Newsletter assignment I learned how to create a date that would change continuously. I also learned how to create word art and actually make a header look how I want it to. I feel that next time I can improve by challenging myself to do more, but also work on putting less words, and making it more vibrant and fun. I really enjoyed learning how to do this because I feel like it is a skill I will use my own classroom one day, and it is something not only for the students to have as a reminder but also myself.
